- [Helmets are Handy!](https://harrisdaleps.wa.edu.au/blog/helmets-are-handy/): Helmets are handy! We have found an increasing number of students not wearing their helmets when they scoot or ride to and from school. We please ask you to remind your children to wear their helmets when they are on their way to and from school each day to ensure their safety. The Road Safety Commission states that helmets must be worn whenever a bike is ridden on public property. Police have the authority to hand out $50.00 fines to anyone who does not wear a helmet whilst riding their bicycle in Western Australia. Let's keep our kids safe!

We work with the Department of Transport to encourage active travel to and from school each day. Some of our Year 6 students were lucky enough to be involved in a promotional video encouraging schools who are also a part of Your Move to apply for grants. In 2019, Harrisdale Primary School received gold accreditation via Your Move and consequently a grant of three scooter racks. These have been an excellent addition to our bike/scooter racks and encourage a larger range of students to ride their scooters to school. Students will instead be using the larger oval owned by the City of Armadale. The gate to our oval will be locked, restricting parent/student access throughout the day including before and after school. The gate between LAT17 and LAT18 will instead be open for parent/student access. We thank you for your assistance with this!

The club will run from weeks 4-10 of term 3. Only the first 25 students who register their interest will be able to attend this year. Expressions of interest will close on Monday the 3rd of August, ready for registration forms to be handed out early in Week 3. The club is open to players of all skill levels and will focus on skill and game development. If you have already committed and accepted an invitation to another after school club on Thursday's, you may have to miss out on Footy club this term.

The Safe Routes Access Guide identifies 6 safe walking and riding/active routes to Harrisdale Primary School in the form of this brochure. We hope that this guide will assist families in feeling comfortable with their children actively making their way to school. 
- [Drama](https://harrisdaleps.wa.edu.au/drama/): The Drama program is run from Pre-Primary through to Year Two, following the SCSA curriculum framework. Students explore the elements of dramatic action, rehearse practiced scene and develop improvisational skills in lessons across the year levels. They are given regular opportunities to perform to an audience in classroom settings, developing their confidence and audience awareness skills, whilst also responding to a range of dramatic performances.
- [Music](https://harrisdaleps.wa.edu.au/music/): The music program follows a sequential Kodály inspired pedagogy where students build on musical experiences across year levels. During weekly lessons, students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 explore the elements of music, develop skills in singing and playing percussion instruments and learn to respond to a variety of music including Aboriginal music using the Noongar language.

- [Technologies](https://harrisdaleps.wa.edu.au/our-school/curriculum/technologies/): Harrisdale Primary School recognises that future-focussed learning is a holistic approach in which learners strive together to find and solve real world problems, with the goal of gaining an interlinked real-world education, to cultivate capabilities to ensure success beyond school. 
 
Students at Harrisdale Primary School have the opportunity to utilise technology to amplify learning across Curriculum areas, as referenced by the Schools and Curriculum Standards Authority (SCSA) as the ICT General Capabilities. Classrooms are equipped with 8 iPads per room from Kindergarten to Year 2, before entering into the Bring Your Own (BYO) iPad Program across Year 3-6.  Teachers reflect against the SAMR model to ensure lessons offer students an opportunity to engage in deeper learning through creation, collaboration and critical thinking skills. 
 
The Technologies Curriculum is explicitly taught in classes across two areas including Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies. This allocated time lends itself as a hub to approach STEM (Science, Technologies, Engineering and Mathematics). Students learn about key understanding and skills involved in design, development and use of technologies and apply this to ideate new solutions through a design process. Students have access to some of the latest robotics equipment, including Bluebot, Ozobot, Microbit, LittleBits, Sphero, Makey Makey, and Parrot Drone. Harrisdale Primary School partners with the community including the City of Armadale and REmida to create sustainable opportunities to resource  STEM projects.
 
Harrisdale Primary School is a recognised DigiTech Teacher Development School, as well as a STEM Mentor School and provides professional learning to educators across the state. This is a program that helps inspire healthy habits in students by encouraging them to get active and walk, scoot or ride to school. Your Move provides programs to teach and develop sustainability at Harrisdale Primary School. Along with this, we obtain points which can be put towards rewards such as new bike racks or educational incursions about positive wellbeing.
